Post Condolences
A young man named Stanley Martyn moved to Marysville from Gaffney's Creek to seek employment. Joan met Stan and they fell in love. At the age of 26 Joan married Stan in a simple ceremony in Healesville and during their marriage had 5 children. They purchased a block of land in Murchison Street on which they built their first and only home. Tragically at the age of 44 Stan was killed while falling timber in the Cumberland Valley. Joan was left a widow with 5 children to raise. The townsfolk rallied around her with tremendous moral support and money was collected to assist.
Joan raised all 5 children on her own, never remarried and remained in Marysville for most of her life, spending intermittent periods at Bendigo and Melbourne. At the age of 81 Joan left Marysville to reside in Bendigo with her son Alan and remained there until her death.
