This memorial website was created in the memory of our beloved Charles Macias who was born in Long Beach, CA on 3rd November 1913 and passed away on 5th June 1999, 85 years of age."Papa Carlos" was married to our wonderful grandmother for almost 62 yrs when he passed away at home surrounded by his loving family. He is also survived by his 5 daughters, Jessie, Rosie, Lupe,Helen, Sally and his only son,David. All six of his children were there daily to help mamamoy w/ Papa Chucky. They each spent quality time w/ their dad and made special memories to cherish. There was lots of bittersweet moments the last months of his life but we were all so blessed to have that time. He had a mariachi band come and serenade him at home and many friends, old neighbors and people from his past came to say goodbye. He was a very loved man. The Macias family started many traditions that have been passed on to 4 generations . When Papa Chucky and Mamamoy started having grandchildren, we would spend Sundays nights together for dinner. Christmas was at their home until the family just got too big. Eventually there were 18 grandchildren and 30 something great grandkids. Our family get togethers are like corporate company picnics and Chucky was always the king on the throne. He was very proud of his family and he was loved by all. He was a hard worker and soul supporter of his family until he retired in the late 80's. He couldnt handle being home and became a crossing guard for the Garden Grove school district. The kids loved him, however, the motorists were annoyed by his slowness. I know, he made me late for work a few times. He would just smile and wave. It is now a happy memory for me. When he finally had to retire from that, he still wasnt happy being home w/ nothing to do. He was no longer able to drive but that didnt stop him from sitting in his car in the driveway and listening to "His Angel Games" on the radio while he snuck in a fast food burger, my grandmother wouldnt allow. He was a die hard Angel fan and in his last days I was able to get them to acknowledge his loyalty and they sent him a letter, autographed hat and ball signed by Darin Erstad. I thought he would be sooo happy and he was, however, he made that moment one of my happiest. When I asked him "wasnt that nice of them?" He could barely talk, but he said, "yeah, but it was nicer of YOU". The look in his eyes told me he knew how much he meant to me.I will cherish that moment forever! Our entire family was so blessed by our patriarch. We also had the blessing of spending time w him and saying our goodbyes. It was hard, but I am so thankful for that now. As Papa Chucky began to have great grandkids, he seemed to enjoy them and really appreciate them. I love the nicknames he gave my 2 older boys, Jake was Jacobo and Nicholas was WIlly," why Willy?", I asked, and he said "cuz he looks like one". I miss him, as I know we all do, but we will all be together again one day, and it will be a great day. There are lots of happy memories to comfort us. They usually start w smiles, laughter and warm hearted feelings but often end in tears and a heavy heart. I will love you forever, Chucky. You live still not only w/ God but in all the hearts who loved you. Until we are together again... |
