In Memory Of Fred A McKell
Born on Christmas eve 1926, Fred was the 4th of 5 children. He was raised on a
farm in Spanish Fork, Utah. He lost his father at a young age. His mother lost the
home due to financial duress during the depression and moved her family out near a
canyon area. When he was just 17, having not yet graduated from high school during
World War II, rather than be drafted his mother suggested Fred go to enlist in the
military. He proceeded to go to a local military enlistment office and thought he would
be able to go home to pack and tell everyone goodbye. To his dismay, he was
immediately transported by train out of the state for training in the Army. He was gone for over two years in the Philippines.

After the war ended, he went to college on the GI Bill and met his wife, Joy, during
his first year. They were married August 17, 1948. They moved to California to start
their life. After working in various accounting jobs, Fred decided it was time to become
self-employed and became a State Farm insurance agent December of 1967 in
downtown Mountain View, California. Fred enjoyed his occupational change because he liked working with people. He has been a great success in the insurance business for forty one years, while employing nearly twenty office staff members during his insurance agency career.

Fred was an active member of the LDS church and has served in many church callings. He has been a good influence when talking with people with his good natured, down-to-earth, small-town personality. He can strike up a conversation with anyone!

Fred experienced various medical conditions during the past twenty years which
began with a quadruple heart bypass in 1987 that was soon overshadowed by
pancreatitis causing a diabetic condition and eventually led to blindness. He always
utilized a marvelous attitude and positive outlook with each medical challenge along with a saying “Go with what you’ve got!” He is survived by his wife, Joy; and their three children Linda, Brad and Chris; six grand children and three great grandchildren.
