With this precious little baby boy, His earthly life not meant to be, Yet God allowed you a moment to treasure, To hold him and his face to see.
He's perfection -- at the hand of God, Though not destined for a life from his birth, God has a plan laid out just for him, Far greater than here on this earth.
We're filled with such sadness and hurt, And Lord, we don't understand at all, But help us to trust and lean upon you, Til we hear that Heavenly trumpet's call.
And yet though our hearts are filled with sorrow, Gattlin has joined God's Angel Band, And there'll come a time when you can join him, To walk through Heaven hand and hand.
We now give him back to you, Jesus. To return to your Heaven in the sky, And we know that there will come that day, When we can join him, with you, upon high --
Written for Gattlin by his Great Aunt Rose LaCaze
From the moment of conception our sweet little baby boy was full of surprises. We did not find out we were pregnant unitl we were 4 months along. I started wondering why I was gaining weight among other clues and decided to take a pregnancy test. The test came back positive. I still had no idea how far along I was! When his daddy came home from work we went to the doctor only to find out that Yes we were for sure pregnant. Not only that we were also 4 months along and after having an ultrasound we discovered It was a boy! Payton and I were in shock. The pregnancy went on with no discomfort at all. I didn't even have morning sickness. Once he started moving I kept my hand on my belly all day just waiting to feel the next kick. Little did I know my life would be turned upside down in a matter of a couple of months.
After my 6th month check up I started swelling. I asked around and thought it was just a normal side effect of pregancy. I researched it online and came to the same conclusion. I called the doctory and they asked me some questions about whether I was seeing spots or had headaches. I wasnt' and didn't. I went home and put my fight up and the swelling subsided. we all chalked it up to working on my feet and driving an hour to and from work. This went on for a couple of weeks. Then the weekend before my 7 month check up I realized I hadn't really felt the baby move as much as I had before. That monday I went to the doctor. They took my blood pressure (which I had been checking regularly at home that was normal) the nurse checked me 3 times before she called the doctor in. By this time I was a little concerned. The doctor took my blood pressure and it was 147/96. He said I was preeclamptic. He then tried to find a heartbeat which he could not. It was finalized when I had and ultrasound. I saw the baby's chest cavity and did not see anything moving so I knew at that moment my baby was gone.
I was then taken into the hospital where they tried to get my blood pressure down. It was confirmed that I had toxemia which was very rare this early in a pregnancy. The doctor said when seen this early it is usually so extreme their is nothing they can do. They then decided to try to induce labor. I kept thinking that going into labor should be one of the happiest moments in my life and instead it was going to be the worst day of my life. After a day they decided to take the baby by c-section. My little man was delivered on March 31, 2009. We got to hold him only for a few moments. I remembered thinking that he looked exactly like his daddy. Everyone said he had my nose. He was beautiful. I still have not come to terms with why God would do this to us, but I know that he is with him and Gattlin is safe with God.
To our baby boy, Mommy and Daddy love you very much. We think about you everyday! Everyone misses you. We only wish we could have known more about you.
