June 18, 1917, a beautiful baby girl was born to the union of the late Forest and Ida Senegal in Crowley, Louisiana. They named their gift from God Gertude, although, she was known as "Gertie". Gertie and her family relocated to California 1934. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and became a faithful servant for the Lord at Ephisians Church of God in Christ located in Berkeley, CA. She spent much of her time in the church, serving in various ministries.
Gertie received her education in Crowley, Louisiana. After graduationg from Martin Luther King Jr High School in 1934, she met and married her true love, the late Tony Jackson in 1938. To this union, four wonderful children were born: Foster, Georgina, Arthur, and Dolores.
Gertie worked at the Naval Air Station for manay years. She retired with 35 years of dedicated service. Gertie's hobbies included crocheting, sewing, and baking.
Gertie brought love, joy, and happiness to those around who were blessed to have known her. She was a cheerful, loving, kindhearted, woman of God; always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her doors were always open to her family and friends. She lived her life for Christ - a devote Christian - endeavoring to share the Lord's word to all she encountered.
Gertie's selfless love and care touched many lives. She will be remebered most for her love of the Lord Jesus, family and the church, wisdom, "million dollar smile", quilts and homemade teacakes.
She was preceded by her parents Forest and Ida; husband, Tony; two brothers, Marshall and Walter; and one sister, Majorie Alice.
On Monday, February 15, 1997, Gertie Jackson went to sleep peacefully at her home in Oakland, California.
Gertie leaves to cherish her beautiful memories: four children, Foster, Georgina, Arthur, and Dolores; one sister, Ida; 14 grandchildre, 28 great grandchildren and 13 great, great grandchildren.
Gertie will be dearly missed by those she loved and those who loved her.
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in Me. In my father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself; that were I am, there ye may be also. John 14:1-3.
Soon and very soon we are going to see the King! |
