Meta Irmgard Schumm Maurer, aged 82, of Newark, New Jersey, passed into the peace of her everlasting spirit, on Tuesday, July 10, 2012. She was the loving widow of John H. Maurer of Dover, NJ, and by previous marriage, the loving widow of Costantino Lepore, of Newark, NJ. Services shall be by private ceremony to be announced. Mrs. Maurer was born June 22, 1930, in Grasberg, Germany. She is the daughter of Hinrich Schumm and Meta Schumm, nee Schlobohm. She fulfilled a long standing dream and immigrated from Germany to the United States in June of 1954 where she took residence in New Jersey. Over the years she lived in the cities of Newark, Bloomfield, and Dover. She was employed for many years as a seamstress and as a banking employee until her most honored retirement in 1989. Surviving her are her son, Oskar Harjes; her daughter, Isabella Lepore Marino; her step-son Kenneth Maurer; and her four grandchildren, Michael Marino, Blake Harjes, Emilie Harjes, and Henry Harjes; a brother, Erich Schumm of Huxfeld, Germany; one nephew and two nieces. In addition to her husbands and her parents, Mrs. Maurer was predeceased by a sister, Ursula Riecke. Irmgard Maurer's passing will be a loss to all who knew and loved her. She loved lively music and gave much cheer to herself and those listening when playing her accordion. She attended baking school while growing up in Germany and kept her passion for making cakes throughout her life. Irmgard's devotion to her family, her unfailing work ethic and keen sense of humor, and her passion for the music of Pavarotti and Andre Rieu, made her life full and rich.
