Joan P. Pfeifer, age 58 of Pleasant Prairie, died on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital.
Born on December 11, 1950 in Kenosha, she was the daughter of Roger F. and Gloria (Greenwald) Schmitz. A lifelong resident of Kenosha, she attended local schools.
On January 27, 1973, at St. George Catholic Church, she was married to Gerald R. Pfeifer.
Initially, Joan worked at Kenosha Savings and Loan and then at Southern Lakes Credit Union. However, her vocation in life was being a mother to her two children and a foster mother to 12 infants.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Family was the key ingredient to Joan and she kept fostering lifelong relationships with her brothers, uncles, aunts and cousins. Joan was a very special aunt to her nieces and nephews and she would knit or crochet baby blankets for the additions to the family.
Joan had many interests including following the Green Bay Packers. However, no one ever wrote a better e-mail or letter that kept everyone in touch with her, including her pen pal of 46 years, Angie. She also enjoyed the time she spent having lunch with her loved ones; especially her mother.
Joan has ceased the fight on earth and is now enjoying life with her father and son with God.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry of Pleasant Prairie; her mother, Gloria Schmitz of Pleasant Prairie; her daughter, Tara Pfeifer of Milwaukee; four brothers, Roger (Kathy) Schmitz and James (Louise) Schmitz both of Kenosha, and Charles (Rose) Schmitz and John (Karen) Schmitz both of Pleasant Prairie; her brother-in-law, Thomas (Beth Ann) Pfeifer of Oberlin, OH; and her “true sister”, Sheila (Rudy) Wiesztort.
She was preceded in death by her father, Roger, and son, Jeremy Pfeifer.
