The family extends their blessings and sincere appreciation for the many expressions of Kindness, Prayers and Support during their bereavement.

Missionary Mattie T. Mangham of Greenport, L.I., NY, was born November 25, 1932, in Crawford County Georgia, to the Late Walter and Edna Mae(Sandefer)Tripp. She was of six children. She grew up in Crawford County and attended it's public schools.

On July 18, 1955, she married Melvin Mangham and in the year of 1958, they moved from Georgia to Long Island, NY, which was their home for over 50 years. She lived her life to the fullest and no one was a stranger to her in her Greenport or anywhere else that she travelled to. She was affectionately called Moma by her children, their spouses, her grandchildren and even somme of her children's friends.

Missionary Mangham was a faithful member of Jefferson Temple Church of God in Christ for over 50 years under the leadership of the late Elder john jefferson and Mary Jefferson. She looked up to Mother Jefferson, who was a great Spiritual role model to her. She had a special gift in being able to embrace people from all walks of life from the affluent to the down trodden (even if she was feeling down herself, which she would never tell you anyway).

She was never at a loss for words, and always had an encouraging one, along with that "million dollar smile" of hers which would make you feel that you were one of the most important people in the world. Missionary Mangham was a very humble woman and had a language all of her own: "Hey suga, stay encouraged, keep your head up, ohh weee, heave mercy Lord, only the strong will survive, Peaceee." She would also let others know that they were a Star in the her Crown. "Yes Lord" "Sho' Nough" God ever bless you" Thank you till better pay" If someone shared something wiht her that she felt would touch another soul she would share it in a testimony and if you asked her why she told it she would say, "If you can't tell it, let me tell it."

Whenever she could be a blessing to others, she would and she would get a blessing in return and she often stated that "You can't beat God's Giving."

Missionary Mangham had a great love for her Church and the South Shore District. Sthe was Sunday School Scholar. She did nothe send her children to church, she broughtthem always on time, never late. She was YPWW teacher, a great devotional leader (with her tamourine in tow)and President of the Sick Committee. She was one of the longest standing members of jefferson Temple and her motto was "Be Real", "I am the B Class: I'll Be hear when you come and I'll Be here when you get back." She was often heard saying "Lord send your word", "Preach Pastor", "Preach the Word", "Preach Elder Jefferson" When her pastor preached and she never sat down on him. Even when when she couldn't walk physically into the church herself, she still pressed her way with the assistance of family and church family.

She was truly an Ole Soldier in the Army of the Lord.

She didn't send her children to church, she brought them and her testimony was if anything happens to me I want all of you to continue to go to church.

In sickness she would often say don't claim it and be healed and "Let the sick say they are well."

She was also often quoted as saying, "Give me my flowers while Iam living and can smell them." She had the opportunity to receive flowers in many forms from her husband, her children, church family and other family and friends and often stated that she was glad that she had the opportunity to smell her flowers. In 2003 her children honored her and their father with a 50th Wedding Anniversary celebratino and she said that was one the greatest days of her life. And of course she quothed another one of her phrases, "Ohh Weee from the joy of it all!"

Up until the end she stated "All of you have proven yourselves to me and given me the opportunity to smell my flowers."

She enjoyed shopping for bargains at the local North Fork Parish Outreach and sharing them with anyone that visited her at her home. She wouldn't allow you to leave her home without sharing something with you.

She loved to dress up and wear unique hats and high heel shoes and would dance for the Lord in them, every chance that she could. She even danced on her last Sunday at church;swollen feet, legs and all.

She was a dedicated emplloyee at St. Patrick Cathedral Church for 41 years, and had great respect for her boss, Father Mitchell and he had great respect for her.

Those who loved her will forever cherish her memories.

She leaves to chersih her memories, her loving husband of 55 years, Melvin Mangham, and their 10 children who she would sometimes refer to affectionately by name or birth order.

I want to Live and Be Like You

Throughout the years, you have really let your light for Jesus shine,
Waiting to be with the most Divine. Your years in the church has helped me to make up my mind
That I want to meet the great Divine.
I want some of your strong Godly knowledge Somethang that I did not get in college. I want to live the life you live, Giving God all i have to give.
Thank God for giving me a chance to live and learn
From you, how to have a true relationship wiht Him.
By turning off from sin, I want to live and be like you,
Experienceing God at work in me, through me, and around me
For you and Him to see.
you are a spiritual being, who has human experiences Just like others, sometimes good, sometimes not so good But wiht the help of the Good Lord you stood. Throughtout most of my life my quietness has intefered in Me being like you Except for my size!
I sit back and watch you glorify God, and hope that some other genes from you are in me.
You let your light shine whereever you go and this is something that everyone knows.
I want to live and be like you!
Being a mother of mine takes up a lot of time, but it did not intefere with you letting your love God shine.
It must be great to be a sanctified mother
your Godlynature, always made life look so easy
Even when you danced for Him in your high heels I could only think how my aching feet would feel.
All your "Yes Lords" and "Amens" "Preach the Word"
Have been of great encouragement and as I have heard you say on numerous occasions I've seen them come and I've seen them go
You wear a variety of hats (no matter the style), but your walk with Jesus has been one way all the way
Proving you are here to stay.
Your unselfishness for others as as caring maskes it very easy when it cmoes to your sharing
Look where God has brought you, He brought you out of darkness and sin
Something of a delight for all men through all of your trials and tribulations, I just want to say
Congratulations
And don't forget I want to live and be like you!

Love your Daughter Barbara

I am going to miss you Ole Soldier
I know, I better get in the B Class
