THE REVEREND DOCTOR TOM HENRY DAVIS

             The Call Of A Leader

                                ISAIAH 6:1-8

I Anointed Thee, While Thou Was Yet In Thy Mother's Womb...An unusual baby boy was born in Terrell, Tx on November 18, 1928.  He was the 4th child of thirteen children. Little did his parents Tom & Annie Lee Pipkin Davis know that they were birthing a great man of God. The unusual round and plump, smooth and chocolate baby boy would hold a secret of God waiting to be revealed in the years to come. His parents named this bundle of joy, Tom Henry Davis.

And He Grew In Stature and Favor With God...There in Terrell, little Tom known as “school boy” grew up and was educated as a lad.  Everyone who knew him knew that other than being a tattletale, he still stood out differently from the rest of his siblings. He then went on to Terrell Public Schools, and later graduated from Quinlan High School. Tom enlisted in the United States Marines in April 1954 and was discharged with an honorable discharge.   His parents were ardent Christians and  reared him in the way of the Lord. He confessed Jesus Christ as Lord while at a young age and converted at the Willow Spring Baptist Church in Terrell,Tx.

It's Just Like Fire Shut Up In My Bones...Tom was saved as a young man at a young age the Willow Spring Baptist Church and God’s plan for his life began. He held out as long as he could, then fire began to manifest in his spiritual life. Then in the early spring of 1950, at the age of 20, under the leadership of Rev. Cathcart, Tom told his pastor and parents what the lord had put on his heart, I HAVE TO PREACH and that never ceased until his dying day. So on April 14, 1952 at the age of 22, Tom was ordained in the gospel ministry at the Highland Baptist Church. In an effort to increase his knowledge and sharpen his tools, he enrolled collegiate studies at Southern Bible Institue and futher receiving his Doctorate Of Divinty Degree from Union Bible Theological Seminary. T. H. also received his Bachelor of Theology on February 4, 1972 from the Institutional Baptist Theological Center, Inc of Houston, Tx.

He That Findeth A Wife Findeth A Good Thing...My Lord! Did he ever find a wife, and my goodness, he did discover a thing in the person of the Morris girl. A beautiful red rose that would blossom in his garden of love, Ida Marie Morris. Tom and Ida were united in holy matrimony on November 21, 1954 just 3 days after his 26th birthday, pledging their love, "till death do us part".  The most beautiful and blessed thing that could have ever taken place in their lives was to become proud parents of Tyra and Tomias. The Davis Family then became complete.

A Charge To Keep I Have...Rev. Davis heard the voice of the Lord, and was led to Pastor the St. Mark Baptist Church in Quinlan, Tx. from 1951-1954. Being led by the spirit, he later Pastored the Elam Grove Baptist Church in Mabank, Tx, 1954-1958. Macedonia Baptist Church in Fate, Tx, Zion Traveler Baptist Church in Scurry Rosser, Tx., Omaha First Baptist Church in Omaha,Tx and Bethlehem Baptist Church in Greenville, Tx. from 1964-1969, and then Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Tx for over 21 years before retiring for health reasons from 1969-1990. After retiring, the spirit led him to serve as Interim Pastor at the Saint John Baptist Church in Greenville, Tx from 1991-1993. He later Pastored Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Athens, Tx from 1994-1995, and finally re-pastored the First Baptist Church in Omaha, Tx before retiring again in 1996 from pastoring but not from preaching.

And The Lord Added To The Church Daily Those Who Were Being Saved...On April 23, 1969, God answered the prayer of the church and sent us a great powerful shepard in the person of The Reverend T. H. Davis who was called to Pastor known other than The Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church at 1333 Evans Avenue in Fort Worth, Tx. By this  Under Pastor Davis's pastoral leadership, the membership increased greatly. It was time to expand but because of city ordinances, and adequate parking areas, they could not expand.  Pastor and membership agreed to relocate. In 1972, the vision became a reality when Rising Star purchased the facilities of the Eastover Baptist Church located at 4216 Avenue M at Miller. This property consisted of seven lots and contained educational facilities to accodate 500, a dining room, a nursery daycare, a sanctuary and a baptismal pool. Two additional lots were purchased, paved and stripped for additional parking. The red grand edifice was built and stands tall on the corner Avenue M at Miller. On October 15, 1972, they conducted the final services at 1333 Evans Avenue and held the first service on October 22, 1972. Pastor Davis/Visionary/Builder, plan was to pay off the church note within 15 years; but with God's help, on Sunday, December 3, 1978 @ 3:00pm, The Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church had a Service Of Mortgage Burning. The membership contiuned to grew rapidly. Many accomplishments were made because of his guidance. 2 Continental Eagle Buses, 2 Church Vans, a church bus were purchased to transport the church members to different churchs in different states and to state and national conventions throughout America. If anyone heard that Pastor Dr. T.H. Davis "Doc" was coming, you could rest asure that he wasn't traveling alone.  Each choir, the Lilttle Angels, the Youth Choir, the Young Adult Choir, the Sanctuary Choir & possibly the Male Chorus and the full time music staff all were clothed in robes. From the Usher Board, the Nurses Station all the way to the Kitchen Staff were in uniforms.

If I Can Help Somebody As I Pass Along...Pastor Davis was affectionately known across this country as "Doctor Dave"  but to family and friends he was the King Of Gospel, a Man Of God.  Pastor Davis experiences and responsibilities had progressed and he decided to accept more challenging responsibilities. He labored in the vineyard for more than 50 years and served in the office of pastor for 46 years. Under his leadership, 210 ministers were ordained by him. He served as a member of many local, state and national religious organizations. He served as President of the State Congress of Christian Workers of the Missionary Baptist General Convention of Texas, the Sunday School and B.T.U. Congress, The Saint John Landmark District Association Congress, the Baptist Ministers Union of Fort Worth and Vicinity and the Fort Worth Inter-Denominational Ministerial Alliance. He served as Vice-President  of the North Texas Regional Convention. He served as Vice-Moderator of the DFW Metroplex District Association and many, many more civic organizations. Dr. Davis was also instrumental in the work at Bishop College in Dallas and Southern Bible Institute. Along with being a positive Christian role model, Dr. Davis & his wife, Ida provided shelter for those college students.

When This Earthly House Of This Tabernacle Is Dissolved, I Have Another Building...He would always say, “For God I live and for God I die and I’m going all the way with the Lord” and that he did. On August 20, 2000, Dr. T. H. Davis preached his last earthly sermon on The Three P’s of The Gospel during Sunday Morning Service at the Greater Strangers Rest under the leadership of Pastor Roy E. West, but early Monday morning, August 21, 2000 abruptly and tragically he was killed in an automobile accident the day Heaven declared it “Welcome T. H. Davis Day”.

THE STEPS OF A GOOD MAN ARE ORDERED BY GOD...His love for God and the church was manifested in his preaching and praising God. Dr. Davis left a great legacy in the Baptist Church. He walked this road of life with unyielding faith, strong determination, and and a willing spirit to do God's will. Dr. Davis had a special gift in the power of prayer. His enthusiasm inspired many lives and they became saved through his ministry. Dr. Davis was an anointed preacher who traveled across the United States preaching and praising God for the thousands of souls that were led to Christ. "Doc" was well respected as an anointed dynamic preacher, a phenomenal shepherd, a world-class giant leader, a skillful teacher, and a visionary. We lost a great warrior. A loving devoted husband. A worlds’ greatest Daddy. A granddad. A brother. An uncle. A friend. He had a unique love for people. His friendship was everlasting and true. His love, laughter, and compassion to all will be deeply missed. We can all learn from him. Dr. Tom Henry Davis was a man of great aspiration, an extraordinary man of God. Indeed a life well lived.

Precious Memories, How They Linger...Reverend Doctor "Doc" T. H. Davis walked worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work. He will forever live in the hearts of those who will cherish his great legacy forever, his beloved wife of 45 years, First Lady Ida Marie Davis, his one and only daughter "his baby-girl" Tyra Marie and son Tomias; one granddaughter whom he dearly loved, Lakebrial Davis; 2 god granddaughters: Keondra Jenkins and Kreshaila Westmoreland; one brother, Arthur Davis; 3 sisters: Theola Davis, Governor Gloria McDonald and Marion Davis; four aunts: Luel Carr, Jesse Brown, Lillie V.
