For Ruby Nesby -- This web tribute is to you -- one of the most loving and giving women I have ever known. She was the life of the party here on Earth, and I am sure she is the life of the party in Heaven. Ruby was known for lighting the room with her smile, her jokes, her strength in the face of adversity, her fighting spirit, her beauty, her fashion sense from head-to-toe, her well kept lovely home, her delicious meals, her support of others, her interest in politics and civic matters, always living life to its fullest and encouraging others to do the same. No one was a stranger to her, she touched the lives of so many over the years.
Ruby was a true giver by nature, that never looked back with regret for her penchant to give -- giving often brand new items -- hats, shoes, clothes, jewelry, household items, food, often just saying "I'm just making room for more"... that is a life lesson she taught us - we have to "make room" for our Blessings...which she did...on a daily basis always giving to everyone who knew her! Always asking - what do you need, what do you want for your Birthday or Christmas...always wanting to GIVE...always wanting to demonstrate her love for all who knew her.
I met Ruby when I was a college student at UT-Austin and she was chosen as my sponsor in the Miss Black Austin contest, and she has remained a part of my life, and that of my parents, husband, children, and friends over the years. We have visited each other, traveled together, hosted parties together, she even provided our family shelter when evacuating hurricanes from Houston, holidays were spent together, all my friends know her as most have met her on one of her many visits or because I spoke of her so often -- she will be sorely missed by me and my family.
My only solace is knowing that Ruby is fully healed and whole now in body and spirit and in the bosom of Jesus, praising the Lord and dancing in Heaven -- seeing the faces again of her parents, family members, her good friends including my mother, Mattie Blackshear and my father, Hubert Blackshear and all who have gone before her -who loved her so much.
It is with much love and joy that I create this tribute to Ruby for others also to give their thoughts and memories of Ruby, where our thoughts can live on forever in cyberspace where she can always be remembered.
Please leave your thoughts here of Ruby, maybe something she said or did that you remember, for future generations to know this one life -- guided by love and sharing.
Donna Blackshear-Reynolds, God-daughter to Ruby Nesby
