Aunt Valerie, So many people have told me throughout my 24 years of life how much I look like you, how much I think like you, and how much I even act like you! I've always thought those were compliments as you were an amazingly, inspirational woman throughout my life! Even though we did not get to see each other as often as I would have liked to, I'm glad I have so many blessed memories of you and me. I'm even more thankful that you were able to be here for the birth of my son Carter. That was...» read more

My heart goes out to Rudy, Nando, Alex, Carol and my former colleagues in the CSP department. In my almost 20 years in the department I too was so awed by what Valerie accomplished and contributed to so many - including myself. The light dimmed in California and here, too, in Massachusetts with her passing. Fondly,

I would not have been the woman and bilingual school psychologist that I am today without Valerie's influence, support and dedication to me, SDSU and children in need. Valerie will forever live on inside me and in the children and families lives that cross my path professionally and personally. I will greatly miss her dynamic presence and energy. VCM was a powerful woman in my life. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

This message is for Valerie's Grandson, Fernando. One day Valerie and I walked around campus a bit discussing the important matters in the College. After a while she said to me, my Grandson Fernando is sooooo precious. I have enjoyed my time with him reading books and playing games. He is such a special child and this time with him has meant more to me than most other things in my life! Always remember Fernando the time you had with your wise and wonderful grandmother! Best wishes, Anne Graves

I know how hard is to loose someone that you love. Times that are very difficult to deal with and pain so hard to explain, but as long as we have faith, faith in the Lord and know that one day we will be together with our loved ones, that should give you the strenght to carry on and wait in peace in the same way as they are....my prayers are with you Rudy and your family.

I think of Valerie each time I conduct psychological assessments because she always said, "Tests are something you do to someone; assessments are something that you are a part of." Her words of wisdom and passion for the psychology of children have made the world so much better. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
