Bill, a man of strong character and determination can best be described as a survivor!  He survived a near-fatal car accident in 1964, and went on to surpass the doctor's expectations by walking again in spite of a prognosis to the contrary.  In spite of his disability, he lived a full and productive life caring for his family and helping family, friends and neighbors with his skills as a carpenter, electrician, mechanic, gardener and handyman.

When diagnosed with a terminal lung cancer in the spring of 2007, he stated his intention to overcome this disease in spite of the doctor's bleak prognosis of 3 – 5 months.  He lived 6 months after the diagnosis.  Although Bill put his trust in Christ for salvation and had the assurance of eternal life in heaven, he had a strong desire to live to care for his family and was often heard to say, “I want to stay around as long as I can and help as many people as I can.† Although he never realized what a blessing he was to others, he was always quick to use his skills to help family, friends, and even strangers when the opportunity arose.  In his final months of life, he was eager to share his faith in Christ with anyone who needed to hear the gospel.  His greatest legacy is the way he cared for his family, instilling a sense of remarkable confidence and determination in his wife, children and grandchildren.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

The Apostle Paul, Ephesians 2:8, 9
